You set the standard with your first post and raised the bar with this one. The lighting was very placed.

This is fantastic. The Sky is dour and brilliant the subject is one I've never seen covered the dragon is ace and the whole scene is soooo atmospheric, peaceful and serene. Full marks for sure.

it's almost sad that the dragon passed,The moody lighting supports that. I just love those clouds. One of my favourite images.

Good to see more of your art simon (thumbup)

The lighting is exceptional here. Wonderful piece.. I love how small the people are standing next to the dragon. One can imagine that in years to come they will be walking by the skeleton of the beast that fell there as they go along the path of the mountain.

Avatar Reko

 01/23/05 @458

I love the colors and composition, but I wish the dragon would read a bit better from the ground. It perhaps blends a bit too much on the mountains in the background. Perhaps a bit more red hue for the dragon?

Those little guys standing around him (or is it a 'her'?) look a little dejected cos it landed on the village pub...well in MY mind it did!!

Fantastic piece...very moody without being too heavy handed...and those clouds put me to shame...I really must practise my backgrounds!

Top marks!

I saw this on... either eatpoo or conceptart. I love the image, especially the wonderful sense of scale you've created. I think hte one thing I'd like to see is a higher intensity color in some sort of capacity.

Well, as nearly everyone had said, I too like the lighting that you used for this, it conveys the mood of what has happened. The details on the dragon are quite nice as well. I would ask, where is the other wing? It just seems to disappear.
Also, the shiny part in the lower right corner, next to your signature, is distracting. Is that a river? It looks a little too intense to me, the eyes tend to be drawn to the brightest areas of a picture (or at least the highest contrast). This is a very bright spot in a predominately dark area of the painting, and to me, I am drawn there. If it is a river, it, to me, is not reading like one. The shape, tones and texture doesn't strike me as a river. It seems more like a ribbon, I think it is the way that it rises up, doesn't seem like its winding. I don't know if I am making this clear.
I do like the piece nonetheless, and it is also far better than I can do, so, two thumbs up+ points.

Outstanding! I like the whole idea and composition in the painting. Thing that I don't like is design of the painting. Dragon could be more detailed and those humans are too large or trees are too small. This still stands out and therefore I give top points.

I learned from this picture.

Just became a member but have been checking out the artwork on here for a long time. this will be my first online critique. Like most I like the lighting, the light coming through the clouds and I think thewhole atmosphere of the painting makes u feel for this dead creature.

Avatar Sandstorrm

 01/30/05 @353

Ah, sorrow about dead dragons: that's not something often depicted in artwork. Dragon-slaying art almost always emphasizes conflict and triumph, but here the gloomy landscape, and the way in which the dragon has fallen, makes the viewer pity the creature and feel a sense of awe and loss. It's more like how people would feel about encountering a beached whale. Not only that, but the dragon looks like it's died of natural causes; its slayer is nowhere in sight, and the diminuitive people examining it don't appear to have killed it. They're just checking out who happened to almost land on top of their town. It looks like it's been dead for a while, actually. The shaft of misty light from the upper right seems to suggest the departure of the dragon's soul from its body. One thing bothers me about the composition, though... maybe it's just me, or maybe it's intentional on your part, but there's nothing balancing the composition to the right. The darkness over there has its symbolism, but it has that compositional feel of falling off to one side.

The dark clouds in the sky suggest the death of the dragon...I love the lighting, how it touches the surfaces of the rocks and hills. This is a beautiful and emotional painting. :)
