Description

Big Jim didn't believe the stories of the lightning tree, and how it could conjure storms if you danced among its roots. He does now...

Painter 8, 4k px, 6 hrs, no refs. Started out as a cloud practice, but Big Jim wandered into the picture and now look what's happened.

Just majorly cool!

The tree seems so out of place, almost awkward, but it works for some reason. Everything is so dimensional here - depth in color, perception, etc.

The clouds and sky are so intense and the illumination on everything looks convincing. Fun piece to look at!

Awesome job Simon. The composition, colors, and lighting technique are wonderful. My only crit is his left hand. It looks like a club. I cannot see individual fingers on it.

I wish I had your eye for colour and landscape (you couldn't lend it to us for a while could ya?).
I like it when paintings evolve on their own...the results are often less contrived than ones that are born from meticulous planning. I also love ambiguity in paintings and all yours have that by the shovelful.

Top marks.

I love everything except the tree. The clouds are sweet as hell, so the land and the man. But the tree looks like pasted into it, maybe having some of those nice sjy colors would help

Oh sure, tease us with a portion of a fable.
Another angry sky, pawing it's way toward an unfortunate soul foolhardy enough to stand in its path.....
Great illustrative stuff, I would like to imagine the lightning fusing the fingers of Jim's left hand. If that's OK with you.
10+

I need a reference in the painting to measure Big Jim's size.
We have nothing that indicates the size of Jim except for the title.
Other than that: Good work, again.

The vibrant colors in your work is terrific, I hope youre making prints to sell of this stuff. The angle of the clouds creates a nice composition with the tree, also with the stance of your character the clouds really add to the fact that it's windy. I love the paintery style, it works well. Wished I could give it higher than a 5 but that's as high as it's allowing me to go. (I'm still a newb status)
